From Surkhet, the group heads to Rakam in Dailekh district, the official put-in point for the rafting adventure. Here, paddlers prepare for the days ahead, practicing safety drills and soaking in the excitement before launching into the first rapids.
Over the next seven days on the river, participants tackle a mix of Class III to Class V rapids, including legendary stretches like God’s House, Juicer, Flip and Strip, Sweetness and Light, Jailhouse Rock, and Jail Break. Between adrenaline-pumping runs, the journey offers serene moments drifting through towering gorges, spotting wildlife like gharials, river otters, monkeys, and rare Himalayan bird species.
Evenings are spent camping on golden-sand riverbanks, where crackling campfires, hearty meals, and Himalayan starlight create a magical atmosphere. Optional activities like fishing for Golden Mahseer and Giant Catfish add an extra dimension to the adventure.
Beyond the rapids, the Karnali River offers a deep cultural immersion. Passing through remote villages, paddlers interact with locals whose traditional way of life has remained unchanged for generations. “Guests often say these encounters are just as memorable as the river itself,” noted the company’s cultural liaison.

The journey culminates at Chisapani Bridge in Kailali, where the Karnali River meets the Terai plains. Here, the adrenaline fades into a sense of accomplishment as the team reflects on their achievement over a celebratory dinner. The following day, adventurers return to Kathmandu to close out the trip.

Due to the expedition’s remote nature and the need for small, manageable group sizes, spaces are strictly limited for 2025. “We keep our groups intimate for safety and to maintain the authentic expedition feel,” explained the operations manager.
Bookings are now open for the October–November and April–May seasons, considered the best times for Karnali rafting thanks to favorable water levels and clear skies.
