A 65-kilometre stretch between the Seti and Karnali rivers—rich in natural beauty and adventure potential—is now the focus of a comprehensive tourism development plan aimed at drawing domestic and international adventure seekers. This initiative, spearheaded by the local government, aims to make Bogatan a premier destination for rafting, boating, and river-based recreation, while empowering local communities economically and culturally.
Speaking on behalf of Karnali Rafting and Adventure Pvt. Ltd., Devraj Jaishi, Executive Secretary of the Nepal Association of Rafting Agencies (NARA), said:
“We have been guiding adventure enthusiasts on the Seti and Karnali rivers for years. The rivers are not only among the best in Nepal for multi-day rafting, but they also offer a deeply immersive experience into local culture and biodiversity. The recent efforts by Bogatan Phudsil Rural Municipality have reignited our enthusiasm and inspired us to scale up our operations in this region.”
Devraj Jaishi emphasized that the Karnali and Seti rivers are internationally renowned for their challenging rapids, pristine waters, and remote wilderness appeal—perfect ingredients for world-class rafting expeditions.
Under the leadership of Chairperson Kamal Bahadur Gadisala, the rural municipality has already conducted successful pilot rafting trips involving local officials and staff. Now, the focus is shifting to capacity building among local youth. Plans are in place to provide formal training, safety certification, and equipment support, enabling locals to establish and operate their own adventure tourism businesses.
“We are thrilled to collaborate with local bodies to offer professional training in rafting, kayaking, and eco-guiding,” said Jaishi. “This not only ensures safety and quality for tourists but also creates sustainable livelihoods right here in Doti.”
The stretch between the Seti and Karnali rivers offers the unique possibility of three to four days of continuous rafting, allowing tourists to explore untouched terrains, witness unique river ecosystems, and interact with local communities. Alongside the thrill of the rapids, visitors will experience:
Traditional agriculture and livestock practices
Locally produced handicrafts and organic goods
Cultural showcases by riverside communities
Diverse aquatic life and bird species native to the Karnali basin
“This is more than an adventure,” Jaishi noted. “It’s a deep cultural immersion. We want to help tourists discover the authentic lifestyle of the region—its heritage, hospitality, and harmony with nature.”
Residents, including Ram Bahadur Budha from Kanachaurak in Ward No. 3, have expressed optimism that tourism will enhance local incomes and reduce outmigration by creating jobs and small enterprises. Karnali Rafting and Adventure Pvt. Ltd. plans to source local goods, partner with homestays, and work hand-in-hand with cooperatives to ensure community-based tourism benefits everyone.
Moreover, the company remains committed to sustainable rafting practices, river conservation, and responsible tourism principles. “The Seti and Karnali rivers are not just rafting destinations—they are life-givers,” said Jaishi. “We must protect them while showcasing their unmatched adventure potential to the world.”
