Karnali Rafting
Nepal is making history with the first-ever Seti–Karnali International Mahseer Angling Challenge 2026, a landmark event blending river conservation, adventure tourism, and global angling culture. Scheduled for 22 March – 2 April 2026, this unique challenge will unfold along the pristine Seti–Karnali River in Farwest Nepal, attracting anglers, eco-tourists, and conservationists from around the world.
The challenge is a pioneering international fishing competition in Nepal, designed not only to promote Golden Mahseer angling but also to raise awareness about river ecosystem preservation.
Unlike commercial fishing, this event promotes Catch & Release angling, ensuring sustainable practices and protecting the river’s biodiversity.
Key Themes:
✅ River Conservation & Awareness
✅ Catch & Release Angling Challenge
✅ Adventure Tourism Development
✅ Community Collaboration in Farwest Nepal
The Golden Mahseer (Tor putitora) is the highlight of this challenge. Revered as the “Tiger of the Himalayan Rivers”, the Golden Mahseer is one of the most powerful and sought-after freshwater game fish in South Asia.
The Seti–Karnali River provides an ideal natural habitat for Mahseer due to its clean waters, rocky rapids, and remote location, making it a dream destination for anglers.
By focusing on this species, the event strengthens both sport fishing tourism and species conservation awareness.
The Seti–Karnali River system is one of Nepal’s last untouched angling frontiers. Flowing from the Himalayan foothills into the Terai plains, the river features:
Rich Biodiversity with Golden Mahseer and other native fish
Adventurous River Terrain perfect for rafting, kayaking, and angling
Stunning Landscapes – lush forests, remote hills, and vibrant local culture
Eco-Tourism Potential – empowering Farwest communities through tourism
This makes the Seti–Karnali the perfect venue for Nepal’s first global angling challenge.
The event is a joint collaboration of tourism experts, local authorities, and conservation groups:
