Highlights

Overview

Embark on an unforgettable 8-day fishing journey to the heart of Nepal’s wild paradise – the Babai River. Nestled within the serene Babai Valley of Bardiya National Park, this river is a hidden gem, opened for fishing only in 2011. The river is teeming with over 50 species of fish, including the legendary Golden Mahseer, the fierce Goonch, the Bullseye Snakehead, and the swift Indian Trout Barb.

Beyond fishing, this journey offers a unique chance to explore pristine forests, raft along crystal-clear waters, and encounter Nepal's exotic wildlife – rhinos, Bengal tigers, bears, crocodiles, wild elephants, and countless deer species. Imagine the thrill of casting your line under the starlit sky, the echo of the jungle in your ears, and the flowing Babai beside you.

Starting with a cultural sightseeing tour in Kathmandu, the adventure then takes you on a scenic flight to Nepalgunj, followed by thrilling days of rafting and fishing through the lush wilderness of Bardiya. Guided by the experienced team from Karnali Rafting and Adventure Pvt. Ltd., every moment is carefully designed to offer a blend of comfort, adventure, and awe-inspiring natural beauty.

The Babai River in the mid-western region of Nepal is a prime destination for angling, located in the beautiful Babai Valley within Bardiya National Park. Opened for fishing in 2011, it requires a legal permit from the park authorities. The river is home to over 50 fish species, including Golden Masheer, Bullseye Snakehead, Goonch, and Indian Trout Barb. Anglers can enjoy fishing, rafting, and jungle safaris, with the chance to see wildlife such as rhinoceroses, tigers, bears, and various deer species.

Fishing trips start with sightseeing in Kathmandu, followed by a flight to Nepalgunj and a drive to Chepang around 1.5 hours. The peaceful environment, bird songs, river sounds, and fresh breeze enhance the experience. Catches often include Golden Masheer and Goonch, with some fish weighing up to 15 kg. Anglers are accompanied by a guide from Bardiya National Park.

Pro Tips for Travelers:
  • Carry waterproof bags for your valuables during rafting.
  • Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, hats, and insect repellent.
  • Pack light, breathable clothing for daytime and warm layers for the evening.
  • Wear sturdy water sandals or shoes that can get wet.
  • Always follow the guides’ advice inside the national park.
  • Keep cameras and binoculars handy for unexpected wildlife sightings!
  • Remember that fishing is catch and release to protect the river's ecosystem.
